7·7 hours agoIf this makes prices go down, whenever that happens, like you say, I guarantee that Trump will take the credit. Probably as soon as he can make a post about it.

8·9 hours agoI still think Barrett, a person who had almost no courtroom experience before being appointed, was a shitty appointment. But she’s turned out slightly less shitty than I anticipated.

Leopards Ate My Face@lemmy.world•Conservative woman whining because men of her own political side think women shouldn't be able to voteEnglish
1·9 hours agoI think there are some historical governments where individual people earned the right to vote. One thing that is appealing about that is the people who worked to earn their vote would appreciate its significance.
But I don’t agree with that style. I think everyone should be forced to participate. It’s called compulsory voting. And that we simply need higher standards for education. These people are dumb as shit because our education system failed them.

News@lemmy.world•Tennessee said yes to ICE—and turned into a deportation stateEnglish
14·1 day agoSo, undereducated and naive Tennesseeans asked Trump to rape their economy, and well, it seems that there’s only one thing that Trump is good at.
Pretty sure that a true sado-vegan also has to kill the plant himself.
This is slightly different from the scene that I remember from the movie.

11·1 day agoThe government is not a business, not that Trump knows how to run a business, either.
One of the reasons our world is so fucked today is businesses chasing short-term profit to inflate their stock prices, while offloading any future responsibilities to the future.
Since a government is not a business, we can actually choose to spend money today to achieve monetary and even non-monetary goals in the future.
So even if Trump were correct in his assessment of the costs, and he’s obviously not, but even if he were, this would be a piss poor decision.
I would never leave any clues like that which could be used to lead police to the person who cut their brake lines.

science@lemmy.world•Consciousness could last hours after ‘death’English
96·2 days agoWe don’t really know what consciousness is to begin with. Some philosophers even speculate that everything might have some kind of consciousness. In that case, your consciousness might go on forever, but you’d have no physical reality. No senses or anything.
I think the bigger point is that if you type the entire path, you are obviously typing more characters, which gives more opportunities for typos, whatever they may be.
It’s far safer to find ways to type less. Less typing, fewer typos. As long as you can do it safely.

That doesn’t protect you from typos.
rm -rv /home/schmuck /etc“Whoops, I accidentally added a space.”
I have three ways around this:
ls ~/etc… <press up arrow, replacelswithrm -rv>ls ~/etc…rm -rv !$- Add the commands to a simple script and use variables to remove the danger of a command line.
I see that you read “behavioral economics scientists” and wrote “manosphere influencers”. There isn’t much of a chance that you did this on accident.
If it was, would that be worse than the zero research you’ve done?

That would surprise me, also. But it takes all kinds. Maybe the average ornithologist tends to think that birds are “cute”, while the average herpetologist tends to think that reptiles are “cool”? I’m sure that whatever the group as a whole tends to think, there will be many counterexamples.
I was just thinking about chess, and how one of the most famous chess players, Hikaru Nakamura often refers to chess pieces as “juicers”, for whatever reason… maybe the shape? Lots of people have nicknames for different pieces, like “ops” for “bishops”, etcetera. But then there are some who take themselves entirely seriously, and never joke around.
