A reddit comment says they rip audio off videos using VLCs convert. Please, yall, get mkvtoolnix. If you don’t know about it, you probably don’t know how easily video files can be treated essentially like a zip file with audio and video tracks inside it.

The VLC convert option is probably transcoding that audio from one lossy format to another. It’s kinda icky to do. Mkvtoolnix will let you pull out the audio track in seconds, no transcoding, no converting, just pure write time.

It lets you do a ton more too, and it never modifies the actual audio or video streams, so quality is retained no matter how much you use it.

I might be late to this party but I recently noticed a VLsub option in VLC itself that makes manually adding subs way easier. It’s not automatic like the other tools mentioned but it’s still a huge time saver.
