Can you provide some examples? I don’t think you live in objective reality if you believe that. There was good and bad, but mostly good, and we saw an administration that was trying to do what it promised to do, even if it didn’t always succeed. There was a massive infrastructure bill, healthcare disability for veterans affected by toxins while serving, a bill that reduced child poverty by half until Manchin decided a year’s worth was enough, subsidies for union-made appliances, a plan that would have reduced GHG emissions by 40% by 2030, negotiated drug prices starting with insulin, etc. He tried to forgive student loan debt but the courts blocked it. They granted pardons to a bunch of low level drug offenders.

None of this sounds like “fuck you.” It sounds like a government that was trying and accomplished a lot, but then you rewarded those efforts by failing to show up for the midterms, and then Republicans stopped any remaining momentum. Elections have consequences.

I think Democrats can be influenced, and by this point I believe Harris’ state department would have been conditioning arms and aid to Israel on a real and meaningful ceasefire combined with allowing aid groups access to Gaza. This is consistent with 1) the end of the Biden administration and its efforts to end the conflict and bring humanitarian aid to Gazans and 2) the current stance, however late, of the majority of Democratic politicians.

Republicans, on the other hand, would never even think about doing these things. There is no doubt in my mind that shit is worse in Gaza and Lebanon because people failed to elect Harris over Trump… To say nothing or life in Iran or the rest of the Gulf.

3. Nonparticipation.

Many Americans think there are more options. There aren’t. Third parties, write-ins, etc. are all permutations of #3. I love seeing establishment Dems losing their primaries to DSA candidates, but if they don’t I’d rather vote strategically than sit out the election and watch fascist kid fuckers take over my country.

I think it’s worse than that. The central limit theorum tells us that a sample of the population, when large enough, will closely resemble the entire population. 60% if people voted, and of those, more than half chose Trump. If the remaining 40% voted, it’s likely they also would have chosen Trump. His popularity is definitely lower now, but I think it’s safe to say more than 50% if Americans would have elected the fascist if voting were compulsory.
