While I liked both, I liked The Hunt for Red October in movie form a lot more than I liked the book.

Honestly I don’t really remember. I want to say Chronicles of Narnia, but that may just be the first time I realized what I was reading was a series. I read a lot of “adventures of so-and-so” type books that weren’t really connected other than starring the same main character.
