The no corner for Brighton was the correct decision. The onfield decision was a penalty. It was overridden by VAR. Once you overrule the penalty, you have to give a drop ball back to the Defending team. I agree that it should have just resulted in a corner.

I’m watching the CBS post match show and the Referee rules expert is saying the IFAB rules don’t account for the deflection any longer. So the fact it comes off his chest first doesn’t matter.

Not the same thing, but a similar thing happened in a Manchester United game a few years ago. Manchester United forward was in on goal and got taken out and a red was given for a dogso foul. They determined that when Manchester United won the ball, it was a foul and so they brought the playback giving a free kick to the other team and rescinding the red card.

I mean, De Paul was always going to make a meal of it, but VAR needs to tell center ref it wasn’t a red, at worst a yellow. This is more on VAR than on field ref.

Because it takes 15 cameras and $250K per match to run the GOAL line tech, increase the cost sigificantly and cameras to have that technology around the whole pitch…

2 is a lot more complicated than you think. Just to implement the Hawk eye system which does ONLY the goal line detection is like 15 extra cameras in the stadiums all precisely pointed at specific areas to ensure they can always see the ball. That’s just the goals, to get coverage on the ENTIRE out of bounds line would probably be something like 40 cameras. There was also a statistic back when they implemented the goal line cameras that it costs these teams like $100K each game to run the system, so increasing the number of cameras and also computing power to do the work would significantly increase that cost.
