This was my first exposure to Linux. I had no internet at the time so I left it on my computer for a couple of weeks and played with the settings and Snake, then reinstalled Windows so I could play my games again.

There is a network that was built using taxpayer money (Openreach) and they’re required to lease it out to other ISPs. However, other companies are free to build their own and only use parts of the Openreach network. Virgin Media (formerly NTL) have built their own network but most other companies only build own small sections here and there and plug into Openreach for the rest, but Virgin don’t lease their network out. So you’re basically using Openreach or Virgin Media.

For these quick jobs where you just have to momentarily commit and you can’t give up once you’ve started (when they’ve answered the phone) I’ve got the mental gymnastics pretty well down.

It’s kind of like when you need to get into a cold swimming pool. I just go to the deep end and block out that it’s going to be horrible and think about nothing else than the act of making my body jump in. Once you’re flying through the air it doesn’t matter what you think because you’re going in

There’s various contractual reasons they may say this but ultimately they probably can’t tell. Those terms and conditions don’t count for anything and can’t be enforced because no reasonable reads them. I’d just go ahead with using your router and wait for somebody to say something (feign ignorance).

Someone will probably shoot me down for this but I actually find ChatGPT good for explaining concepts to me. Especially when I just want a high level understanding of a concept as I try to understand another one without getting too bogged down. A lot of Google results go into way too much detail.

I don’t really understand how anything could be before Prometheus? Didn’t that whole thing imply that David created the Aliens between Prometheus and Alien Covenant? Though I’d quite happily see that whole idea disappear.

This is for the best, there would have been even no end of trouble if he wasn’t able to run for election because he was sent to jail or whatever.

It looks like Trump is almost certainly going to lose the election and when he does he’s going to jail. It’ll make November even more fun.

Actually I speak from experience. I grew up in the countryside and I’ve also lived in huge cities. Places to have a drink after work provide a hub for the community where you can relax and meet people in the area. I’m not talking about nightclubs, I’m talking about anything at all. They’re especially important in cold countries where you aren’t likely to just sit in your garden and talk to the neighbours over the fence.

I use light mode because I’m not a goth.

These kinds of places can look idyllic until it’s 5:30pm on a Friday and the only place to get a drink closed half an hour and the streets are all empty. Then they start to feel pretty boring.

I don’t think they had much choice when the Europeans rocked up.
