Hi Y’all!
So first of this is my fourth attempt at getting into a souls like. Previously have given a go at Elden Ring, Sekiro and Demon Souls, but always bailed or rage quit.
But I just got my hands on Lies of P and recently reached the rabbit siblings and have been dying, replaying and dying, but also progressing.
So I am confused, because I read people say Lies of P is like super punishing and difficult. So does it ramp up at some point or is people just overselling it?
I know it may feel like that because of some very elitist mindsets shared by a very vocal minority of the community, but it’s just rubbish. You can play the game however way you want. I’ve gotten to a point where I’m using both the Mimic Tear and a summon whenever I can for the Elden Ring DLC’s bosses. I don’t have to prove myself that I can beat this boss on my own, the “real” way, and can just cut it short for my own time’s sake and my enjoyment. It’s been doing wonders for my enjoyment so far and it makes me not feel as discouraged when playing. If somebody wants to discredit my experience, they can just fuck right off lol.
Just some food for thought - absolutely fine if that’s what you want from the game. I used to be like that too.
Fun fact, you don’t need the Saintess statue to respec your stats anymore. It used to be that way, but you can just respec at the Gold Coin Tree as of quite some time now. Makes it easier to experiment with your builds. :)
Great, looking forward to it. :) What’s your favourite weapon (combination) prior to the respec and after it now that you have your desired stats?
Well I would never tell anyone that they are playing it the wrong way. People can do whatever they want with the game that they play, so it is solely for myself that I feel that I wouldn’t beat the game if I did.
That being said I use the summons in every boss fight, because the game obviously wants me to do so. And according to YouTube Elden Rings wants you to too. So for me that is playing the game as intended. And again if people wants to not use them, I won’t patronise them for doing so.
And thank for the tip! And I will just stick with the broken collab halbard thing for now. Which I have a lot of opinions on!
Okay, just checking in :)
Yea absolutely. Anything that’s in the game is fair play in my books. Summons, ranged combat, magic, consumables… How did people arrive at cosplaying Guts being the only correct way to play soulslikes anyway?
Is that the street sign thingy? That one’s actually part of a really broken weapon combo, paired with a certain dagger blade you can buy later.
No it’s the AZURE DRAGON CRESCENT GLAIVE - sorry for the caps, it was a copy paste from a wiki :p I use it because it was given to me at start and it’s good, but it is so good that it keeps you from actually engaging with the weapons system until … well I haven’t used any other weapon yet.
Aaahhh, yea that one’s pretty strong. But if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it :D
Well I think it is too strong for a beginner weapon. It should have been a reward for something imo, not just a choice of starter weapon.
But okay, when/if I start a new game, I will put it aside and start experimenting with other weapons.
It’s the same problem I have with Monster Hunter expansion gifts. Playing through Worlds with the gifted armor set for the most part trivialise a lot of monsters, doesn’t encourage forging new armor or upgrading - because why would I? I already have the best low rank armor and it is basically a tool to rush to the game to get to late game content. You know what I mean ? It’s the same feel I get with the azure crescent thingy.
That’s fair. I used it a little but wanted to try the weapons the game presents instead. You could argue that the game shouldn’t hand it out immediately at the beginning of the game, but then again it also doesn’t force it onto you - you’re free to switch as you please. If you want to experiment, do that. If you like the weapon and enjoy the moveset, I think you just found a weapon you vibe with and that’s fine. I also gravitate towards special myself, so I also don’t end up mixing weapons around too much.
I’ve only played the game back when it was released around 2017 and I don’t think we had that back then. But yea, absolutely. Then again, low rank is just that: low rank. You don’t want to invest too much time into all kinds of different armours in low rank unless you’re enjoying the farming anyway. Once in high rank, there’s more of a reason to farm some monsters since it’s a bit of step up in difficulty compared to LR. But if you’re comfortable playing with that gifted armour up until end-game content, chances are you’re likely good enough at the time that you wouldn’t spend too many resources on new armour and focus on weapons instead - where needed, of course, since there’s only so many GS or hammers you need, for example :D The “real” game starts after HR after all
Well you could argue that you should spend LR (or first play through in the case of LoP) to learn the mechanics and then utilize those skills in HR (or in new game), but I see your point. And I do enjoy my big ass glaive, but as mentioned I will look into the other weapons in my next play through. There are some pretty nifty looking ones I must admit.
And fought the green swamp monster boss. Loved the design, but first time around I didn’t keep an eye on my durability, so my weapon broke mid second phase. I didn’t carry a secondary weapon so it impaled me and did unspeakable things to me :( Second time around I got it though!
There definitely are. The boss weapon from the Green Swamp Monster is considered to be one of the best weapons in the game.
Waait, you got him on your second try?! Holy. It took me two days my first time around, I think. I hated its guts. Only now after playing through the game way too many times I’m starting to appreciate the fight. But damn I hated it at first
