Nothing. Buying knick-knacks you don’t need is bourgeois. I would enjoy my time by going out to eat or to a park.

There’s nothing wrong with nice things for a memory or smile. Accumulating nice things just to show off or fill a void that can only be filled by reconnecting with ourselves is problematic. So maybe instead of buying ten mementos, I buy one or two and donate an affordable sum for mutual aid.

I was making a joke. Socialism is not asceticism. If you want to buy souvenirs there’s nothing wrong with that. Particularly when the money is going to a socialist state like DPRK. If my buying some kitschy souvenir can fund a small fraction of a fraction of a percent of their next nuke, i will gladly spend my money there, lol.

What if the store clerk offered you this SUPER and revolutionary recipe book with tons of types of food from different regions from the DPRK. OH, She offers a 20% discount of a total of 30 Euro. Will you buy it?

First of all, giving me a recipe book is like giving Ikea assembly instructions to a chimp. Second of all, if someone offers me a discount that makes me less likely to want to buy from them. Why? Because that means they knew all along they would still be able to make a profit even from a lower price. So why did they not have that lower price as the default price in the first place? Why did they try to scam me by overpricing at first only to later offer this so-called “discount” which is really just what the price should have been all along? Never trust people who try to haggle or offer discounts. They are trying to pull one over on you.

        Spoiler

In case this wasn’t clear from the absurdity of what i just wrote, this is a joke, lol.

Oh, I am confident that the DPRK recipe books are WAAAAY better than those pesky liberals in the West that have so complicated instructions.

If the store clerk heard you saying what you wrote after “Second of all”, she will gently smile and say: “Oh I know what will be preferable souvenir for you dear customer”. Let me show something a connoisseur will deeply love. BEHOLD!

You will even feel amazed that you find a book that is translated to your language of preference!

Food diplomacy! Sharing delicious snacks and om noms with folk is a great way to break down barriers.

Some awesome posters like the soviet art of old would look great on just about any wall.
