Quite honestly I can’t stand only a few books that I’ve read, recently The Awakening by Nora Roberts.

Holy crap, do I reallllyyyyy want my money back. I was bored. So. Bored. The magic system was subpar, the characters just….ew, everything was so, so boring. The MC is an idiot.

What book is a zero star read for you?

Verity by Colleen Hoover - laughably bad

and Jpod by Douglas Copeland - pretentious drivel. It was a struggle to finish and when I was done I threw it across my living room lol

Verity was the only one I read so it made me never want to read anything else she’s written!

I’ve hated HAAAATED everything by Hoover but I heard Verity was a whole different style. It’s been sitting on my shelf for two years because I’m scared to read it.

Yeah, I’m a weirdo. I liked it. Tried a couple other books of hers and was not impressed. Like, it wasn’t great by any stretch, but it kept me interested right from the start.

I couldn’t even finish Verity!! The writing was bad and the characters were just cringey. I felt like I had second hand embarrassment and cringe for the main character the whole time and I couldn’t handle it

Really? I kept getting recommended a lot in one of my reading FB groups last year, so I thought it was an incredibly good book!

I read and loved JPod when it first came out. I wonder how it would hold up as a reread 20 years later.

i hated verity so much i don’t even know where to start with it. for a thriller it was as thrilling as watching paint dry. 80% of it was bad sex and when i saw the thanks to el james in the acknowledgements i was like well this shit makes sense.

A friend said to me that if she could read any book for the first time again, it would be Verity. I took that as quite the endorsement and read it. Good grief… the main character? What a wet fucking blanket she was. Hated her. Hated the writing. Hated the book. Won’t go near another CoHo book again.

Was coming to post Verity. Glad I found it not so far down! I sincerely don’t understand how it has good reviews. Makes me question the collective intelligence of humanity because I felt that book was insultingly bad.

I was thinking about re-reading Jpod but you’ve reminded me of how disappointing the main plot and ending were. I think I was just remembering how much I liked the general bits about the workplace. It hit home for me as any of the ridiculous software companies I worked at in the early dot com days, similar to how that Silicon Valley hbo show hit a little more recently.

But yeah, it was no Microserfs.
