Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is Apple TV (subscription) a rip off in both the US & Canada?English
1·17 days agoThe subsciption alone is ¥600 ($3.80) a month but with ad free, it’s ¥990 ($6.15) which is like 30% CHEAPER than $19.98, it’s crazy how the prices are different for literally the SAME THING. Annual subscription is ¥5900 ($36), so is the same subscription overpriced in the US for an entire year?

1·17 days agoThe same things are less in JP:
- Apple TV: ¥900 ($5.60)
- Disney+ Ad-Free: ¥1250 ($7.85)
- Netflix Ad-Free: ¥1590 ($10.00)
- Amazon Ad-Free: ¥390 ($2.45)
There’s no HBO in Japan so that’s out of the picture, also it’s weird that Japanese Netflix is HALF of the US price. (That’s because the yen is weak making it appear cheaper than it should). Also, why is ad free Amazon expensive in the US while in Japan that is closely priced the same as an onigiri for 400 yen at a konbini.

Anyway, I’ve managed to snag an entire season of a TV show I haven’t seen yet which is ¥999 when it was originally ¥4010 per season (or ¥16040 for all 4) but managed to snag the entire series at ¥3996.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What was the worst American remake of a foreign movie you've seen after watching the original version?English
2·23 days agoI remember watching Cordon which is a Belgian TV series that aired in 2014 but there’s also an American remake under another name containment, the only thing they have in common are that the character’s names are exactly the same with differences being that their settings take place else where respective of their regions.

Europe@feddit.org•What was foreign exchange like in the pre-Euro days?English
1·3 months agoDuring the initial transition into Euro from your country of residence, have you seen parallel pricing at stores? Like did they display prices in both currencies? What about job listings that advertise salaries or minimum wage, were those converted straight to Euro on day one?

1·3 months agoBack then, were people paid in Marks before the transition? When Euro became the standard, did people’s salaries get converted overnight?
