The spirituals, silly tales were coded rebellion/escape messages, often telling of plans for rebellion, escape, and a mental map of pitfalls, safe houses, resting places on the way to free states. Moreover, the Tanaka/Bible itself was an Esoteric message to free oneself from external and internal (limited beliefs, defeatist attitudes) that was written on multiple layers of meaning. The literal was the “milk,” the middle two were soft/strained weaning mental foods for thought, the fourth was the Esoteric, teaching the people to free themselves from their own constraints. The Jewish message is of resilience in harsh conditions, physical and mental, and thus the common themes of mysticism. Lording over others is easy and brutish. Lording over our own perceived physical and mental limitations, real or imagined, are the mountains to be removed.
