I am a healthcare worker and I live in a red state. Today I tried to get my COVID vaccine and I was told I was not eligible.

I was shown a list of qualifying conditions and one of them is mental disorder.

I told the pharmacist that I am crazy; therefore, I am eligible for thhttps://www.cdc.gov/covid/index.htmle vaccine.

Also if you live in a blue state, your government is probably looking out for you.

Hold up. An adult can no longer simply request the vaccine?! I thought the CDC was only changing recommendations. Did the FDA issue this semi-ban?

I’m sure as pharmacists who (hopefully) believe in science, they would prefer you lie and tell them you have a condition and need the shot.

Maybe, but the insurance companies that would normally pay the insanely marked up price do care and will arbitrarily choose the option (of paying the bill or billing you) that profits them the most. The plan was always to kill poor people in every little bureaucratic way possible.

There’s also a “physical inactivity” category that’s the easiest to fall under.

I’m in California, but we still (currently) have the same federal bullshit requirements. Doctor friend said I should lie.

Made an appointment, and the pharmacist asked if I was immunocompromised, or XYZ, and I just told them that I qualify—no follow up questions, just a jab in the arm.

To be fair, I do have anxiety that my government is trying to kill me, but that’s just crazy…

I got it at CVS in California and it was just a box you had to tick on the intake form, “I am qualified to receive the vaccine” lol. It was in same section that asks the standard stuff like, “are you allergic to stuff in this vaccine?” etc. No conversation about any of it at all.

I just checked that BMI over 25 qualifies, so I’m covered along 74% of the population

When can I start checking the “I am qualified for pharmaceutical smack” checkbox

Are we just being our own fucking healthcare providers now? How long do they think this absolute clown show is going to be sustainable?

My goodness. What a load of crap. I’m sorry to hear you had to go through that. I wish there were more level headed people in higher positions in our country. But that’s just not the case as much as one would hope.

Remember, these are some of the same people who thought 'adding bleach to your bloodstream could ‘cure’ you of COVID-19, and that a horse dewormer could also be a likely ‘cure’.

Level-headed people don’t want to rule the world, or force others to do things their way. Only assholes do, which is why they destroy everything good set up by those just trying to help their fellow humans.

People who believe that stupid crap are people who have been trained by bullies since childhood to do & believe what they’re told, and it’s so ingrained from such a young age that their obedience is instinctive even when it’s self-destructive.

The major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.

To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it.

To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.

Are you in super great shape. I believe being technically obese, overweight, or physically innactive. Last I knew I was slightly obese by some vague measurements of weight to height and certainly a bit overweight and I am really not physically active enough in my view. Also Im like effeminately less than 12 months sober.

Is outing oneself as a member of the Fed’s hit list in order to get a vaccine ultimately good for one’s health in the longterm?

For me personally, last year was ridiculous trying to get the vaccine, and that was while there was still some sanity and trust, however minuscule, left in the system.

First time I tried to get it, it was out of stock everywhere. Second time I tried to get it, I was turned away for arriving too close to closing time (aka 45 minutes until close) at a walk-in clinic. Third time I was turned away because I mentioned that I had said “Hi” to my neighbor outdoors while they were passing by in their car and then found out about an hour before my appointment that the neighbor just tested positive for covid so the pharmacist refused to administer it. So I went to the next closest pharmacy, which had a walk-in option, and they didn’t even ask me any health questions or exposure questions, they only asked me for insurance information and which arm I preferred.

This year, I have really shitty insurance so I’m pretty much expecting a shit show even if the government and medical field weren’t already a shit show. Fortunately, so far I’ve been hearing that it’s widely available and that there are ample qualifying reasons for insurers to pay for it.
