I’m thinking about getting a PS5 Pad. I know that the PS5 pad received some driver support however i read that the Adaptive Triggers don’t work (does that mean the triggers don’t work at all?). Though i can’t find any newer info about that and don’t know if this still is a thing.
I know that i could pick up some 8bitdo Pro Pad as an alternative though i haven’t been happy with their quality (The R and L Buttons suffer from a really bad design with a very thin rubber that died on me the second Time already)

    Yes!

    https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Controller:DualSense#Linux

    The normal buttons work fine.

I don’t know which are adaptive triggers and with what games they should work.

The light bar doesn’t changes colors when multiple ones are attached to the computer.

I haven’t tested audio and gyroscopes.

I heard that audio doesn’t work over Bluetooth, which is how I mostly used it.

The update firmware tool works only on Windows.

But it doesn’t matter as it works just fine also with the firmware that it comes with.

That sounds great. Tbh i only care if the buttons and rumble work other stuff i don’t care much about. The triggers are important for racing games so i was confused about that. Glad to hear that it seems to work. Ty :)

      Works just fine for me.

The update firmware tool works only on Windows.

But, funnily enough unlike the fucking XBox App, it works flawlessly in a VM.

Which also includes the adaptive haptics, they are technically 2 sound channels.

Which is kind of pointless, since thats not how it’s exposed on windows, and so no games are going to be programmed to expect the haptic feedback to be over an audio device.

Adaptive triggers should work if the game explicitly supports them.

Actually the main issue with the Dualsense so far for me is “if the game explicitly supports them”. Because some games just don’t, then you have to fall back to Steam Input and get XBox prompts. Some games only support it wired, but not via Bluetooth. Some do both, but only support the adaptive triggers and/or the touchpad on the PS5 version, not on PC.

It’s a mess, sadly. I got one recently and both ergonomically and from a purely technological standpoint I think the Dualsense is waaaayyyy better than the XSX controller. Sony “just” needs to make more devs properly support it.

For me it worked as simple as enabling bluetooth, pairing it and playing games. Only thing I had issues with was rumble not working, though even that seems to work fine nowadays.

Yes they basically do, adaptive triggers work over USB for the games that support it, haptic feedback however doesn’t work.

DS5’s are crap and prone to drifting sticks.

How prone? I’m on my 5th replacement. I really want to like this piece of shit, but it’s just too much of a piece of shit.

I use a Ps5 controller exclusively, most games recognize it automatically through steam, some need it set manually. Either way I havent had any issues with it. I hate rumble so I dont know if it works.

What proportion of games have PlayStation button prompts rather than generic xbox ones?

Most of the games I play dont have playstation button prompts, but considering the layout is near identical I dont consider that a gamebreaking issue.

Yeah they work fine. I have mine for over a year now and it was mostly without problems.

Only thing is that most games don’t natively support the controller, which means that Steam will spoof an Xbox controller and the games will show you Xbox button prompts.

Does that mean you have issues when playing Non-Steam games for example on Lutris? Or will it still get at least detected as an Xbox Pad? I don’T care much for the prompts as long as the buttons are correctly mapped.

Depends on the game. I have Uplay installed in Lutris and added it as a non-Steam game to steam so it can use Steam Input.

Could never get mine to work on bluetooth although everything else works fine wired like the adaptive triggers.

Mine just instantly disconnects whenever i pair and connect it, It is the only bluetooth device i have issues with.

bluetooth is broken with the ps4 and ps5 controller on bluez 5.70 and 5.69 so you will need to downgrade to 5.68 or it will just keep disconnecting instantly.

Just got a DualSense controller like a week ago and have been playing with it a bunch.

It works very well as a standard controller. If you use Steam Input, it all good.

If you use it directly, it also works, and also adaptive triggers work too, but haptic feedback does not currently work due to the feature not being implemented in WINE/Proton. There is a patchset floating around that adds the support, and there is even a compiled version of Proton with it here, but from what I can tell, major Proton/WINE distributions such as GE do not seem to carry it, which is a bummer.

So, in my opinion, DualSense is a good choice for gaming on Linux, with a few more kings to be ironed out.

I’ve used the DualSense and DualSense Edge on my Linux PC and Steam Deck both in Bluetooth mode without issues. Steam also has excellent controller support for both.

They work absolutely flawlessly. Way better than XBOX. Adaptive triggers work too!
